It is always a wonderful day in March when the NZ Antique and Classic Boat Show takes over Lake Rotoiti in the Nelson Lakes National Park.
The movements of the boats through the water reflect the stunning environment, but also adding to the variety are steam, sail, oars and the various motors. The flamboyance of these boats are echoed in the colourful dress of the sailors. In the past the boats had various functions such as carrying people and stores, to a sailing vessel, warfare, exploration and ferrying. The beautiful lines and forms of the Classic Boats appeal to me as a working artist. This is what motivates me to paint these boats in their wonderful setting.
