Painting Boats

I do enjoy looking for and drawing the curved flowing forms of traditional boats. The movement of the boat through the water captures my interest especially those under sail

The materials that boats are made of, the design and aesthetic appeal of the construction are of particular interest. Usually boats have a characteristic function,  such as ferrying people or they are used purely for recreation.

The set rig can vary greatly which one must consider when working up a composition.

Quite apart from the boats is the movement of water under different conditions, the extent of wind and the energy it produces.

Like David Hockney I study the movement and reflections in water. It is a challenge to work up motifs and techniques for expressing pattern, textures, colour tones and forms. Hope you enjoy my recent works
